Digital Audio - Music and sound

29th Apr 2026

Over the past few months the children throughout the school have been learning about digital audio. Digital audio is a general term used to describe how we can use digital technology to create, generate, record, edit, manipulate, store, broadcast and transmit sounds.

Most of the music we listen to and many of the sounds that we hear every day have either been created, recorded or produced using digital audio technologies. These technologies have revolutionised the music, film, gaming and creative sectors. They are also widely applied across many other industries such as software and web design, science, engineering and healthcare. Digital audio technology can provide the children with new musical opportunities. It can inspire them to be more aurally aware and musically engaged.

Attached here are some samples of the children's work from P1 (where it's largely an exploration of digital audio tools and learning about the 'record' and 'play' functions) through to P7 (where they learn to create and edit audio files).

Some samples of work are purely audio and some are audio added to a still or moving image.
