Week 14 Update

22nd Jun 2020

Dear Parents & Carers,
I hope you are all safe and well. All staff are keeping safe.

As we enter the 14th week of school closures, the last few days have been very busy as we plan for a return to school. All staff members have been working in their classrooms, we have had meetings to organise class allocations and had discussions on our restart plans.

Class Allocations

Class allocations have been very difficult to formulate this year, due to the late delivery of school budget information from DENI, which determines our classes for 2020/21.The staff, senior leaders and Governors have worked constructively to complete the decisions that impact on class allocations.

I appreciate that there can be a level of anxiety built into this process for some pupils and parents. The class allocation is determined by the school budget and the 1.5 class intake number of 45, each year, therefore in every two year cycle, we effectively have 3 classes.

The process has to be managed in this way and consequently, a set of criteria is used to determine class allocation.

Class allocations were determined by criteria that focused on meeting the needs of those children with identified learning needs and identified social, emotional and behaviour needs, ensuring a gender balance (as numbers allow), composite classes were organised by age profile.
Class allocations for each child will be delivered by email on the Teacher2parent email system on Thursday 25th.I will answer any queries regarding allocations on Thursday from 12.30 pm on 02890424772 or by the school email.

Restart plans

Our restart plans will be issued by Friday 26th and are subject to change , as the situation continues to evolve. All primary schools in the North Down area will follow a co ordinated approach to the restart.

Take care.
